HOSTICKS SPRINGS INTO ACTION

Match: Sam Hosticks Rover Match

Venue: All Lakes

Date: 27/04/08

With the region just starting to see the first spring like temperatues. It seemed to have spurred both the fish into feeding and anglers to return to this popular match fishery.

One of the returning anglers, after a gap of 18 months, was Terry Grey (Hosticks). Drawn on peg 3 Kingfisher and given a little room either side of him. Terry showed that he hadn't forgotten how to fish the venue and weighed an impressive 153-08-00. Fishing corn and pellet at the bottom of the far shelf he won the match by some distance. Terry caught carp from the start through to the end of the six hour match and had specimens upto 10lb.

Another angler making his first visit to the venue this year was John Clarke (BobCo). Drawn early in the rover he decided to fish his old favourite, peg 30 Kingfisher, and proceeded to catch a smaller stamp than the winner throughout the match for a final weight of 82-00-00. John also fished corn and pellet on various lines.

3rd was Graham Greendale (Anglers Corner) with a mainly paste caught 61-08-00 of carp from peg 29 Kingfisher. Those extra eight onces proved crucial as it knocked venue regular Trev McLoughlin (Everetts) into fourth with 61-00-00. Trev caught long on peg 9 and suffered a frustrating day in the wind which caused him to lose at least a dozen fish. Another venue regular and Mr Consistent on Moat Lake was Col Smith. His mainly silver fish bag of 58-08-00 from peg 13 was enough for a lake win and 5th on the day.
