Been a while since I added to this blog, and wow! such a lot has happened. FC have gone from relegation candidates to Grand Final contenders, back down to also rans after the KR match and now apparently after a rousing win at Leeds we are up there again, would the real FC please stand up! Even during the 6 wins in 7 matches I was not thinking about Grand Finals, it was a welcome winning streak but in all honesty the form did not suggest a successful playoff campaign. Frankly, I want to win the Grand Final not just turn up to be a part of the occasion. The KR match was a curious affair, I really expected the scoreline but not to them! FC were subdued from the first whistle to the last and whilst the conspiracy theorists have had a field day suggesting that we threw the match to keep them in SL I think I am prepared to go down the 'it was just a blip' road. This theory is given credibility when you look at the efforts against Leeds, which could not have been more different to the KR match. The Leeds performance was backs to the wall stuff, bottle in abundance and taking chances when they came along. In a roller coaster season if we can manage to string together consitently performances like Friday night we just might have a chance in the play offs. The Briscoe affair finally came to a head this week with the news that he has signed for KR. I was red carded in the Mail for having a go at their tabloid reporting of this issue when they ran headlines mooting it as a possibility. Stu Rowson completely missed my point, which has not that Briscoe would never sign for them, but was the way the mail reported it in such a sensationalist manner without producing a shred of evidence in the article itself, have they learned nothing from the Cooke affair? apparently not. They are still putting a 'defection' slant on Briscoes departure which could not be further from the truth, rightly or wrongly (time will tell) FC have decided to go with Tony at FB and Briscoe was shown the door, not a defection, surplus to requirements. Talking of inappropriate comments, I don't think Morgans comments in the run up to the derby, and the immediate aftermath, did him any credit at all. He mused in his column how great it would be for Cooke to score the winning drop goal and afterwards commented on how great it was to hammer us. He might well have believed both, but seems to me it lacked respect, not just to FC as a club but also to his supposed big mate Peter Sharp. I guess I should not be surprised coming as it does in the same week that we find that Cooke has a case to answer for regarding his defection. What amazes me is that KR have somehow wriggled off the hook. Now obviously I don't know all the facts thus I have to assume that they are completely innocent, it just seems a little odd does it not? How on earth Cooke alone is guilty of an illegal approach is beyond me, surely it takes two to tango and all that? A swift rebuff from KR to Cooke would surely have nipped the whole thing in the bud? Perhaps that happened and Cooke would not take no for an answer? Or did they not ask for evidence of his supposed 'free agent' status? Surely they must have? I guess the fact that KR have not been charged means they are indeed completely innocent in this affair.....one to ponder me thinks. |
