Ah, summer rugby!!

Do you remember the days at the old Craven Park, standing on the terraces with your bovril trying to keep warm? Well, yesterday was reminiscent of those days and yet they call it summer rugby!
First blood to Rovers in the derbies this year, I have to say I'd love us to take all four this year, and I do believe it's possible at the moment.
It wasn't a particularly memorable match, the weather put paid to any skillful rugby we were likely to see, and my goodness that must have really hurt having that hail blowing in your face in the second half, thought Rovers did really well to survive that without Hull going over. I actually felt some sympathy for the Hull fans in the South Stand, not the best of places to watch a game even on a nice day, but yesterday they too took a battering from the elements.
Some memorable moments though from a not so memorable game overall, the best for me being the Makkattack, Makali Aizue demolishing Scott Wheeldon with one incredibly massive shoulder charge, and the smile on his face after was priceless, Makka is clearly fighting for a contract for next year, when overseas places will be even more limited. Micky V was awesome yesterday and lead by example in both attack and defence.
The thing with Rovers now is that we have the luxury of being able to rotate our squad now players are back from injury. I was gutted when Ben Cockayne's name wasn't on the team sheet, but fair play to Kirk Netherton, did everything that was asked of him and more. I expect 'Charlie' to return to the team for Wigan along with the long awaited return of star prospect Rhys Lovegrove. Doesn't mean other players will be 'dropped' but means Justin Morgan will be using his coaches brain in rotating a squad which will hopefully stay injury free.
So off to the JJB now, one of my favourite away grounds, of course we had two fantastic days out there last year, let's hope we can replicate those on Monday.
Hope the weather warms up a bit...!!
