Beverley pull off fine victory
Neither side managed to get on top during the early stages of this encounter.
Hall road were awarded a fortunate free kick on 15 minutes.
The shot was deflected and Thompson got a hand to it, but failed to keep it out.
Town fought back, with chances falling to Irwin and O'Connell, before an equaliser on the half hour.
A pin-point free kick by McMillan was powerfully headed goal ward by Ricardo, Nuttall failed to hold and O'Connell followed up to net the ball.
Town went ahead before the break when good linking play involving O'Connell and Ricardo got Rafton into the box.
His fierce drive was deflected in by Patterson.
Town pressed for a third goal to kill the game off as the match went into the second period.
However, they found Hall Road resolute in defence.
The best chance fell to Durham, but his shot went straight into Nuttall's hands.
Ricardo also went close before Lamplough grabbed the third goal on 80 minutes, when he clearly robbed a defender and beat the keeper to cap a fine victory.
Hedon Rangers 3 Malet Lambert 1
In a very close game, Hedon made the most of their scoring opportunities whilst Malet found keeper Derek Peat in top form saving two one-on-ones and the woodwork preventing another possible score denied Malet a share of the points.
In an open game both sides moved the ball well with Hedon starting particularly well.
Hedon took the lead when Chris Spinks evaded a tackle to shoot home before Malet's cover could close him down.
Malet missed two one- on-one's, which keeper Peat saved as well as other opportunities that were spurned.
In the second half Malet deservedly equalised when Simon Spencer broke through to cross for Brad Mackay to volley home brilliantly.
Hedon fought back and took the lead again following a goalmouth tussle which saw the ball bounce off a Malet defender for Adran Parkinson to rifle home.
Malet were unlucky when another break by Simon Spencer saw his shot rebound off a post to safety.
In the closing minutes Hedon made the game safe when the referee was caught out by a Malet quick free kick being charged down by a Hedon player awarding them a disputed free kick which was headed home by Steve Markham.
Hornsea Town 4 Westella & Willerby Res. 0
Hornsea opened the scoring when a long throw from Ed Simpkins was headed home by Steve Ward.
Ward doubled the lead, and his goal tally, when he stabbed the ball home following a mix-up in the Westella box. Dean Jennings's scored the third with a shot into the bottom corner.
Danny Bunch completed the scoring following another long throw by Ed Simpkins which was flicked on at the near post.
Division One
Bransholme Athletic 1 North Cave 0
Although Bransholme dominated the first 20 minutes neither keeper had a save to make as the final ball was found wanting.
Quick combination play between Leigh Staplehurst and Steve Willacy on the half hour saw the ball fired to the far post for Brad Allon to head back across goal but sadly no one was on hand to force the keeper into a save.
The visitors were restricted to long-range efforts and appeared to lack lustre in what is normally a highly competitive affair.
As the day chilled, however, the football began to hot up and Bransholme seemed to lose their composure when a 50-50 between home keeper and visiting striker saw the ball squirm through the keeper's legs and trickle over the line only to be recalled for a foot up.
Dean Longhorn, with a rare venture up front, had an opportunity to put the home side in the lead but his tame effort was easily dealt with by Tom Baxter in the North Cave goal.
The half-time whistle gave Bransholme the opportunity to regroup and they scored the only goal of the game when a short Lewis Franklin corner allowed Leigh Staplehurst to fire in a quality cross for the head of Brad Allon who converted well.
Bearing in mind North Cave were second in the division at the start of the day, the goal appeared to galvanise the away side and they put Bransholme under some considerable pressure.
If it wasn't for the quality of Mike Antcliffe in the Bransholme goal the home side may well have capitulated.
Man of the match Antcliffe pulled off three stunning saves, the first a full length dive to his right that saw the ball tipped round the post, his second a save with his feet when Cave were through one-on-one and the third a flexing backward dive that saw him scoop the ball away.
At the other end Bransholme had chances to further extend the lead, most notably another quality Staplehurst cross flicked on by Franklin that saw Mark McGrath fire just wide and a Staplehurst long range shot that saw the visiting keeper parry the ball to safety.
Bransholme now appear to be right back in contention, not bad for a club that had only gained four points out of 15 after their first five league games.
Crown FC 4 Inter Charter 0
A well fought contest which was hard but fair saw Crown down to nine men.
Charter played some good football, but went into the break 2-1 down.
In the end the result was fair, although the margin flattered the home side.
Scarborough Athletic Res. 1 Withernsea 1
Withernsea AFC left Hutton Cranswick's Rotsea Lane ground thinking about chances not taken following a 1-1 draw with Scarborough Athletic Reserves.
Looking at the league table before the start of play one would think a 1-1 draw is a good point gained with the Seadogs two places and six points better off than the Seasiders.
The Seasiders already faced a tougher task then what it could have been when last week's goal scorer Jimmy Dawson had been forced to drop out through work, while both Phil Wicks and John Dunn were still absent.
Manager Tony Finn thought he'd got himself a 14-man-squad when he had added both Philip Good and Danny Frazer from the Reserve team ranks when their fixture was called off at 10am.
This soon became 13 following a no show from goalkeeper Phil Richardson.
Withernsea again opted for a 4-3-3 system, with Neilson and Sutton gaining a start in midfield alongside Danny Medforth, Tom Finn moved up front alongside Simon Wilson and Paul Wilkinson while the defence stayed the same.
The locals started the better of the two teams and were unbelievably not 1-0 up after Tom Finn managed to hit his shot wide and in to the side netting from very close range after the keeper had fumbled the ball to his feet.
Jimmy Neilson headed a Medforth corner just over, Simon Wilson and Mark Sutton worked a great opening with a couple of good one-twos but Wilson's final touch took him to far and to close to the advancing goalkeeper when he was one-on-one.
The hosts failed to really threaten Wilson in the Withernsea goal, he watched one effort just fizz past his post and another went just over the crossbar while he dealt with any crosses and corners perfectly, either seeing it cleared by the solid defence or comfortably collecting them himself.
Mark Sutton nipped in between a defender and the goalkeeper to head home from close range on 20 minutes following a Tom Finn shot that deflected to Sutton at the back post, this after good work from Jimmy Neilson who had held off two defenders to find Finn on the edge of the box following an Andy Bentley throw-in.
Scarborough's equaliser came from the penalty spot after Brad Keyworth had hacked down an advancing striker on the half-hour mark.
The penalty being dispatched past stand-in goalkeeper Mark Wilson.
In the second period Withernsea again pressed the Boro goal but couldn't find the back of the net.
Most notably an outstanding move involving just Jimmy Neilson and Paul Wilkinson, a couple of one-twos between the pair led to Wilkinson picking Neilson out in the box but he couldn't get enough on his shot and it drifted agonisingly wide.
Another good team move saw Medforth picked out but his rifled effort from just inside the penalty area was blocked.
Chris Hardcastle fired over from distance with his left foot after winning the ball in the middle of the park.
Although the possession was mostly Withernsea, Mark Wilson was called in to action to make two quality saves from one-on-one situations, one gifted following a weak back pass from skipper Keyworth.
With not long remaining Withernsea could have scored from a Medforth corner to the front post, Si Wilson and Hardcastle got in a bit of a mix up, it appeared Wilson got a little nick on it when it looked like it was falling perfectly to Hardcastle.
A good game was played but both sides will admit they failed to produce the goods in the final third of the field.
The weak line markings and long grass at one particular corner of the field didn't help things but both sides played out a good game under the circumstances.
Withernsea are again on their travels next week, this time at third placed North Cave FC who is well in the reckoning for a promotion place.
Maybe that could have been Withernsea had it not been for a terrible start to the season, but The Seasiders must fancy their chances to keep giving these teams a good game and see where that leaves them lying come the end of the season.
One thing for certain is that they will have to keep their eye on striker Craig Gorman who has notched 16 goals from just 13 HPL matches, most notably a hat-trick against bottom club Inter Charter a fortnight ago.
