Plenty of trees beside seaside

HAVING undergone redevelopment in the last 20 years, Bridlington Golf Club is 6,638 yards long, with a par of 72, and is good parkland course that golfers of all abilities can attempt.

spread across the course are over 10,000 trees and five water hazards, creating many problems for players hoping to return to the clubhouse with a good score.

Extended nine years ago, the clubhouse at Bridlington now presents a place to relax following a completed round of golf. The bars and restaurants are complemented by two snooker tables.

The course itself has some excellent greens, as well as some dog-legged holes, that require a long drive in order to see the green for the approach shot.

The first hole is a 354-yard par four and golfers should be aware of the five bunkers that encase the green, as well as the lake to the right of the fairway.

the second hole requires a drive over the lake to the green, before reaching the third hole which requires a similar shot to clear the bunkers 150 yards from the green, before embarking on a left-sided dog leg at the fifth.

Hole six is a difficult dog leg, strewn with bunkers that make the initial drive very important. Too short and the next shot is played blind, too far right and the green is out of range. Bunkers then await the approach shot.

the seventh is a simple par four – watch for the tree in the fairway – before a long drive is needed for the 500-yard par five eighth.

The ninth is a simple hole, 226 yards straight to the green, and then a dog leg at the 10th with water either side of the fairway and a bunker sitting before the green.

The 11th is a par three hole with bunkers on approach to the green and the 12th has bunkers across the fairway 150 yards from the green.

Trees block the direct route from tee to green on the 13th and the 14th could cause problems – the approach shot needs to avoid water on both sides of the fairway and the bunker to the right of the green.

Hole 15 is a straight drive toward the pin, avoiding the three bunkers sitting in front of the green, before a short 16th where you’ll find bunkers if the first drive comes up short.

The 17th has a slight dog leg to the right with bunkers on the right and around the green, before a difficult 18th, where the opening drive must clear the pond and the trees before negotiating with bunkers on the approach before a two tier green.

This course could be tricky for over-hitters looking to reach the green in a hurry, but is a challenging experience nonetheless.
