DESPITE being only seven miles from the centre of Hull, Hull Golf Club provides serenity and tranquility for its members, away from the bustle of city life.
Formed in 1904, the club moved to its present site in Kirk Ella in 1921 and has recently redesigned all its bunkers to add to the challenge that the course offers members and non-members who try their luck on the fairways.
The course is surrounded by mature trees and is kept in excellent condition by the team of green keepers all year round.
At 6,242 yards, the course offers golfers a par 70 challenge, with a long-standing amateur course record of 62 set back in 1982.
Players are welcome at "The Hall", Hull’s own clubhouse, which offers full catering facilities together with a fully stocked shop and three experienced teaching professionals.
The course itself starts with a long par five, before a series of par fours ranging between 280 and 464 yards and some short par threes. The ninth hole is particularly tricky with a sharp dog leg right to a raised green.
The 12th, a long par five at over 500 yards in length, contrasts with the 13th at, at just 130 yards, is a short par three.
The final three holes of the course signal a very difficult finish, with hole 16 a long par three at 178 yards, hole 17 an uphill 439 yards, and the 18th a par four 455 yards.
The course offers golfers an excellent golfing experience in a peaceful environment not far from the amenities that Hull city centre has to offer.
