Kilnwick Percy has beautiful views

KILNWICK Percy Golf Club offers challenging golf and an excellent walk with panoramic views from the East Yorkshire Wolds across the Vale of York to the Pennines and south towards Lincolnshire.

On a clear day you can see as far as York Minster.

Every hole is different, maintaining interest throughout the 18-hole, 6,218 yards of mature undulating Parkland, featuring water hazards, ancient and newly-painted woodland and unrivalled views.

Recently acquired, the golf club’s new owners have exciting plans including, improvements to the course, the introduction of a brand new clubhouse and modernised, well-equipped shop.

There are full clubhouse facilities including a licensed bar with newly extended opening hours, family room for juniors serving snack food daily with more comprehensive menus for corporate and society days.

The course has earned a fine reputation for its interesting design. There are plenty of changes in direction and a good mix of both long and short holes.

As you walk from the clubhouse to the first tee you have your first of many panoramic views but soon need to concentrate on this long downhill par four, which isn’t the easiest of opening holes.

the fourth – par five, Chapel Hill – is one of the course’s signature holes. Not only is it one of the longest holes in Yorkshire at 610 yards, but it is also gently uphill with strategically placed bunkers and trees. A genuine three shot hole.

Another longish, but relatively straightforward par four, awaits at the seventh, which is bordered by Pocklington Wood.

the 16th is one of the hardest but most rewarding holes on the course and a net par is a good result.

With a gentle downward slope revealing panoramic views, but hiding a left dogleg, past bunkers to the tree-sheltered green all illustrate the diversity of this course.

The view from the 16th tee is breathtaking as the downhill fairway is framed by the trees and the rolling Wolds unfold ahead.

The par four 18th is a strong finishing hole, which is played slightly uphill, with out of bounds all the way down the left.

However as you putt your last, take a final chance to take a long look at the stunning views over the Wolds before heading for the 19th.
