Tough tests in small greens

Opened by cricket legend Ian Botham in 2000, Skidby Lakes Golf Club is a 6,158 yard, par 70 challenge.

the championship parkland course in particularly notable for its many water features and golfers may have trouble reaching the small and hard-to-hit greens.

The greens, however, are among the best in the area, some of which are sloping so it is important that golfers position themselves below the slope for the best chance of sinking the putt.

Despite its relatively young age, the club is already planning improvements to the course, which includes three new tees, the levelling of tees and the ongoing drainage work throughout the course.

As the course starts, golfers face a gentle 303-yard far four, where it is important to have an accurate approach shot to avoid the bunkers before landing on the long, thin green two bunkers either side.

Holes two to 10 include a short par three, a 481-yard par five and several par fours ranging from 301 to 481 yards, which lead to the first feature hole of the course at the 10th – a par-four, 363-yard hole.

Another short par three at the 12th is surrounded by par fours, before approaching the 17th, the longest hole at 554 yards and a par five.

The 18th is another feature hole of the course, a par three at 210 yards in length, which features a two-tiered green.

The par three holes are all difficult, making it important to achieve at least par on these holes.

Doing that will help you keep the overall score down before reaching the longer holes.

Skidby Lakes Golf Club offers a golf course that will cause problems for experienced and inexperienced golfers alike, cementing its position as one of the best new courses in the region.
