The Boulevard is steeped in history as the old home of Hull FC rugby league team. The black and whites moved to the KC Stadium in October 2002, but greyhounds continued to race until mid-2006 when owners Hull City Council served an eviction notice on the previous leaseholders and The National Greyhound Racing Club suspended Hull's racing licence. At one stage it looked as though the old stadium, situated in a regeneration area, might be knocked down and the site redeveloped. However, local businessmen Shaun Rennison and Dave Marshall stepped in during September 2006. The duo have secured a three-year lease from Boulevard owners Hull City Council to run the stadium. After a £200,000-plus re-fit the stadium has re-opened as a community stadium, primarily initially for greyhound racing on Thursdays and Saturdays. It is hoped that lease will be extended, if the new venture proves successful.
