HULL CITY: Brown's tribute to players

Saturday, November 28, 2009, 20:39

HULL City boss Phil Brown paid tribute to his players as the Tigers earned a hard-earned point against star-studded Manchester City at Eastlands.

Trailing to a first-half goal from Shaun Wright-Phillips, the Tigers got a richly deserved point when Jimmy Bullard struck home from the penalty spot after Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink was pushed in the box by Kolo Toure with nine minutes left.

In reference to recent lean times at the club and the upheaval caused by Paul Duffen's departure, Brown said: "I've had nothing but support from the players.

"There is a spirit among the lads and the response of the players is the reason I'm still here as Hull City manager."

Brown added: "In the second half we probably deserved something from the game.

"Bringing on George (Boateng) in the second half allowed Jimmy (Bullard) to play further forward.

"Manchester City had a gameplan to stop him but George allowed him to get forward.

"We are a spirited team and the togetherness of the group is coming together now.

"The longer the game went on at 1-0 the better chance we had of getting something from it."
