HULL CITY: Sad day for Brown, says Windass

Monday, March 15, 2010, 11:07

FORMER Hull City striker Dean Windass says it is a sad day for Phil Brown after he was relieved of his managerial duties at the club.

Brown has been placed on gardening leave with immediate effect, with Brian Horton and Steve Parkin taking charge of first-team duties until further notice.

Windass was the Tigers hero back in 2008 when scoring the winning goal in the 1-0 win over Bristol City in the Championship play-off final at Wembley to help Brown's men into the Premier League for the first time.

Windass told Sky Sports News: "I feel very sorry for Phil. He's the most successful manager Hull have ever had.

"He was a great manager for me and a good coach as well. It's a sad day for Phil.

"He's done a fantastic job in the time he's been there. To take us (into the top flight) after 104 years was a great journey for us.

"All good things come to an end but he was a good friend and always will be."
