HULL CITY: Tigers bid £12m for Negredo

Wednesday, August 13, 2008, 07:00

HULL CITY are bidding to smash their record transfer fee to smithereens by bringing Real Madrid striker Alvaro Negredo to the KC for a staggering £12m.

The Tigers are believed to have tabled the massive offer for the 23-year-old, a move which would more than double the current £5m record paid to Fulham for Jimmy Bullard in January.

No one was available from the Tigers to confirm reports on Sky News that City had made the £12m bid.

However, the player has openly admitted his desire to play Premier League, whilst his agent told the Mail he would seriously consider a move to the Tigers.

Negredo, who has also interested Spurs, would be one of the transfer coups of the close-season, if City can secure the services of a player who netted 32 goals in two seasons at Almeria before heading back to Real.

He has yet to play a league game for the Spanish giants but has turned out 80 times for Real Madrid Castilla, the reserve side that plays in the third division.

And his move to City would crown a remarkable few days in the history of the club with Stephen Hunt and Kamel Ghilas set to be unveiled as the club's newest signings today.

Midfielder Hunt and striker Ghilas will join Seyi Olofinjana, year-long loan signing Jozy Altidore and Steven Mouyokolo at the KC as City boss Phil Brown's squad takes shape for the new campaign which starts at Chelsea on Saturday.

With the capture of £2m defender Mouyokolo from Boulogne, who was signed in January but ineligible until this summer, the new recruits take boss Phil Brown's close-season spending to £10m.
