HULL KR: Ball is in Clinton's court

Wednesday, November 25, 2009, 06:15

HULL KR coach Justin Morgan says the ball is in Joel Clinton's court regarding a possible move to the Robins.

The Brisbane Broncos prop looks increasingly likely to head to Super League in 2010 as his club is willing to release him from his present deal.

And Morgan says Rovers have plans in place to accommodate him within their salary cap.

As revealed in the Mail yesterday, Rovers have held talks with Clinton's agent and are believed to be the player's preferred choice of club in Super League.

And Morgan admits KR's close relationship with the 27-year-old star's agent, David Riolo, could help swing the deal their way.

"We have had some dialogue with his agent, who acts as the in-between, and we have expressed our interest and where we would be if he became available," Morgan told the Mail.

"He is somebody that we have tracked for quite some time now and I have been a fan of his."

The former Australian Test star would be KR's final big signing ahead of the 2010 season, commanding a salary of £152,000-a-season at the Broncos.

But although he stressed he would be happy to start the season with his present squad, Morgan admitted the club had done the maths ahead of a possible move.

"There is some room to move in the salary cap, not a huge amount, but there is some room to move so hopefully we can move it forward," Morgan said.

"Financially we have done some good due diligence on him and if he is available and he would like to come to us we will talk to him.

"Yes, we do have a good relationship with his agent, and like in any business, if the relationships you form are good ones you tend to prosper.

"He has a number of players at this club and is somebody that the club gets on very well with.

"We have had good dealings with him previously and the likes of Michael Dobson, Mick Vella and Ben Galea have come our way from him.

"From that point of view we are very comfortable in terms of we don't have to go banging on doors."
