Megan leads Goole to first win

Thursday, December 10, 2009, 07:19

GOOLE Town Girls under-10s produced their best performance of the season as striker Megan Craighan inspired her team to their first victory of the campaign, a 4-1 away win at Beverley Whitestar.

The start of the match saw Goole being forced into their own half but good defending from Tyler Braitwaite, Megan Gledhill and Dominica Benkowska, couple with some fine saves by keeper Georgia Phillips, saw Town hold firm.

Beverley continued to have the greater possession and finally got the goal they had been working hard for.

Goole held their heads high and came back fighting and a superb ball from Megan Coultard found Benkowska, whose cross was handled in the area and Thorn slotted home from the spot.

The second half saw the young Goole side raise their game and a perfect through ball from Coultard found Craighan, who beat the last defender before slotting home nicely.

Craighan got her second goal of the game from a great run from Benkowska, who played an excellent ball through for the striker to finish well.

Coultard then struck narrowly wide before Goole's final goal came from a surging run from the halfway line by Benkowska, who slotted home for a deserved goal for her efforts.

PLAYER of the match Amy Dodds was in the goals as Tickton under-10s maintained their push for the title with their 12th win from 12 games after seeing off Hessle Town Girls 9-0.

Tickton forced Hessle back into their own half from the start and Mille Sharp found Dodds free on the edge of the area and she made no mistake to give Tickton the lead.

Dodds then added another, before Sharp and Cordelia Cavil both scored to give Tickton a well earned 4-0 half-time lead.

After the break, Sharp, the league's leading scorer, showed what a fantastic team player she is by setting up numerous chances.

Jessica Wright scored a second-half hat-trick, with Sharp involved in all of her goals.

Dodds also continued her fine form by completing her hat-trick and the scoring was completed with Cavill scoring her 24th goal of the season.

Hessle continued to battle hard and their best chance fell to Millie Cavill, who was superbly tackled by Olivia Nassau on the edge of the area to deny her a clear opening.
