National spot close for Rivermen
They now have four more games against lower placed teams left to play.
Win all four and they could finish as league runners-up and go through to the national finals.
Kingston took the lead after two minutes when the Newcastle defence cleared an attack from Kate Marsden and Braden Jennings, and the puck fell to Tom Stubley who fired in a long shot through a crowd of players under the netminder's pads.
Fine Vipers moves put Thomas Weatherley in the Kingston net under pressure, but he kept the puck out with some good saves.
Stubley, Marsden, Jennings, Cain Taylor and Jack Sewell all had good efforts saved by Newcastle's netminder, Dean Bowater.
Beth Barwell and Susanna Pearson were made to work hard in defence by the Geordie forward line, keeping the score at 1-0 at the end of the first period.
The second period opened with Finlay Ulrick scoring a fine goal after two minutes after being put through by Taylor.
Shots by Aiden Strangeway, Taylor, Stubley, Jennings and Marsden were all well saved by an increasingly confident Bowater.
However, three Kingston goals in two minutes saw the Tynesiders lose their grip.
Kingston's third came from some good defensive work from Marsden who won the puck in the Kingston end-zone, and passed to Jennings, who split the defence then laid off the puck for Sewell to fire home.
Ulrick set up Sewell who took the puck behind the Newcastle goal and flicked it back to Taylor, who chipped over Bowater.
From the restart Jennings found Strangeway who fired home a fierce shot.
Susanna Pearson got into the act, finding Taylor open, but saw his shot well saved. Newcastle fought back hard, and a strong Vipers attack found an unmarked Newcastle forward in front of goal to slide a consolation goal under Weatherley's pads.
Beth Barwell was penalised for high sticks during the move that led to the goal. Newcastle grabbed a second on the powerplay when a high shot found its way through a crowd of players and beat Weatherley for 5-2.
Kingston attacked strongly at the start of the third period with a shot from Marsden well saved, and a strike by Taylor adjudged not to have crossed the line by the referee.
Kingston extended their lead when Susanna Pearson and Ulrick split the defence and put Sewell through on goal, for his second and Kingston's sixth.
Newcastle kept attacking, but good work by Carla Clark kept their forwards well away from threatening the Kingston net, and Jamie Robinson and Reaghan Taylor both did some good work towards the end.
