Bonner shows a cool head for Aeros
Lee Bonner came up with a cool finish after 41 minutes of the game at the Hull Arena to give the Aeros a valuable four points.
Bonner, Shannon Jones, Chris Westcott, Jack Sewell and Alistair Marsden all tested the Vipers netminder in what was a scrappy start.
David Good made two nice saves when Newcastle were allowed to break into the home zone as the first period ended 0-0.
Vipers netminder Boyle was kept as busy in the second period as Marsden, Bonner and Braden Jennings all went close, with Adam Hirst assisting.
The tension continued to rise in the third period, with Newcastle coming more into the game and testing Good four times without any joy.
Finally, with the clock at 41.11, Marsden sent a pass from his own blue line to Bonner on the Vipers blue line and he confidently sat the keeper down as he rounded him to slot into the empty net.
Under the cosh, the Aeros then managed to see out time with Jones defending strongly and Marsden firing just wide of the empty net as the Vipers pulled their netminder for the last 30 seconds.
KINGSTON Crunch under-16s had things a little more there own way with an 8-2 home win over Manchester Phoenix.
The Crunch started strongly with Tom Kent setting up Dec Pearson for the opener.
Ninety seconds later a Bonner centre was hit first time by Jones to double the advantage.
Hard work by Bonner in the Phoenix zone was rewarded with a goal as the visiting defence managed to put the puck into their own net.
Manchester pulled one back early in the second period but battling work by Jones enabled her to drop the puck to Bonner whose shot was tipped in by Liam Charnock for 4-1.
Charnock then turned provider when he passed from behind the net for Jones to rifle home.
The sixth came from a bullet from Scott Newman following a nice move between Kent and Pearson.
A great solo effort by Charnock ended the second period with Kingston ahead 7-1.
Manchester got a consolation early in the third but the final action saw Kent fire home from Pearson's pass.
Joe Blowers made some fine saves while defenceman Dec Balmer, Kieran Strangeway, Tom Jackson and Oliver Blake kept on top of the Phoenix attack.
Ryan Hairsine, Joe Thomas and Chris Westcott formed a dogged third line that kept the Phoenix scoreless.
