Renner at the double for Springhead

Wednesday, March 17, 2010, 07:20

STEVEN Renner was the star for Springhead FC under-10s as they recorded two victories over Cherry Burton Tigers in Group Four.

With the Tigers only having six players, Springhead agreed to also field six to make it an even contest.

The first game was an even contest with both teams having chances.

But after a goalless first half, Tigers went close to opening the lead only to be denied and then Renner popped up at the other end to score two quick-fire goals to seal a 2-0 victory.

In game two, after another goalless first half, Springhead's Josh Ward and Nathan Voakes saw efforts well saved by Tigers keeper Mathew Jenkins, before Sam Dunn sunk the winner with a chip that came back off the woodwork and in.

JOSH Walker was on fire with four goals in game two as Swanland under-10s beat Batemans 1-0 and 7-2 in Group Two.

The first game was a very tight affair and was settled in the second half when a good run and cross by Walker was turned in by Ben Taylor.

The second game was much more open and Batemans took the lead when a superb left foot shot curled in at the near post.

This sparked Swanland into life and a purple patch saw them score six goals in 10 minutes.

Walker was inspirational, netting four times and setting the other two up for Jordi Wood.

The second half was a lot quieter with both teams scoring one apiece, with the Swanland goal being scored by Matthew Davies.

Swanland: Henry Pell, Angus Brocklesby, Will Kavanagh, Jordi Wood, Matthew Davies, Micah Decordy, Josh Walker, Harry Douglas, Mike Taylor, Ben Taylor

PINEFLEET Wolfreton were made to battle hard against a good solid Hessle Rangers under-10s side as both teams took a win each.

In game one, Pinefleet fell behind when a long ball put a Hessle player through on goal to slot the ball passed the advancing keeper.

In the second half, some neat passing from Tom Burnett and Finley Plummer set up the equaliser for Plummer.

Pinefleet piled on the pressure and scored a second through Joe Robson, followed by a third from Burnett.

Hessle fought back with a goal just before full time but Pinefleet held on for a 3-2 win.

In game two, Hessle were more on top and ran out 2-0 winners.

IN Group One, St Andrews and Westella & Willberby A shared the points in two entertaining games.

In match one, Westella started well with Alex Craven coolly slotting home a James Tullett through ball after two minutes.

Billy Rhodes and then Tullett set up Alex Craven to complete a great hat-trick within the first 10 minutes.

Westella continued to dominate and Craven scored his and Westella's fourth of the day just before half time.

The second half was an even contest with neither side adding to the score as Westella ran out 4-0 winners.

Game two was completely different, St Andrews showed great character and scored early on with a great strike from distance by Josh Brennan.

Craven equalised for Westella, but Saints then took control with Brennan hitting two more thunderbolts to secure his hat-trick and Jacob Dale outpacing the defence to finish well past the advancing keeper to seal a 4-1 win for St Andrews.

PELICAN BOYS took four points from their double headers with Hall Road Rangers in Group Three.

In two evenly matched games Pelican Boys edged the first game 1-0 with Josh Dixon scoring.

The second game could have gone either way after Pelican's Jonathon Ellis expertly finished in the box.

Hall Road fought back and it took a good finish from Alex Kellington to level the scores at 2-2.

BARHAM Boys maintained their winning start, grinding out 3-0 and 1-0 wins over Hessle Sporting Tigers under-10s in Group One.

Harry Smith headed just over from Billy Chadwick's corner at the start of game one.

It was all Barham and they took a deserved lead after a Chadwick corner was headed into the net by a Hessle player.

In the second half, Barham extended their lead when a neat moving involving Chadwick and Thacker found Josh Drury with his back to goal, who turned and hit a first time shot to beat the keeper.

Thacker made the final score three with a thunderous left-foot strike from outside the area.

In the second game, Lewis Brett nearly opened the scoring but the Hessle keeper pulled off an excellent save and moments later also denied Jacob Slade.

With time running out Barham won the game when Chadwick wriggled free of a couple of defenders in the corner and his shot beat the keeper to make the final score 1-0.

Barham Boys: Luke Glover, Lewis Brett, Josh Thacker, Josh Drury, Harry Smith, Jack Darble, Harrison Coolledge, Sonny Collins, Finley Hoyles, Jakob Slade, Billy Chadwick, Eric Longhorn, Thomas Patey

DRIFFIELD Panthers beat Cottingham Rangers 2-0 and drew 1-1 in their Group Two double header.

The Panthers scored twice after the break in game one to seal victory, although Harrison Morrow had a great chance to level at 1-0 but struck just wide for Cott.

In the second game, Cott opened the scoring when Declyn Goddard's well placed corner was poked in by Luke Stretton after a goal-mouth scramble.

Despite fine defence from William Whittle and George Richards for Cott, they could not prevent Driffield levelling from a corner.
