Hull City: I can't wait to get going, says Dowie (videos)
Unveiled at a press conference at the KC Stadium today, Dowie stressed he fully believed Hull was a city which deserved a Premier League side, and that he was confident of ensuring that is where the Tigers will remain.
"I'm coming to a working class town that has a ferocious fanbase that needs a team representative of that ferocity and tenacious spirit," he said.
"The club have won one in 15 and in a poor run of form away from home. But what we must do is look forward. We've got nine great games - five at home and four away - and some games with people in and around us.
"We want to get to a position where destiny is in our own hands. The tenacity the side showed against Arsenal is paramount.
"Hopefully the players will enjoy tomorrow's intense training session."
Asked about a previous occasion when he discussed becoming manager at City before Phil Brown's appointment, Dowie denied having ever said being linked to Hull was like a 'slap in the face'
"I heard that. I would love someone to produce that quote because it is not something I said," he said.
Asked about the job Brown had done at City, he added: "I’m only going to talk about the good things Phil Brown has done, it’s very important he should be recognised for the job he has done here.
“He should be applauded for his job, this is just a different chapter. I’ve had it in my life, sometimes you get curve balls.”
Both he and chairman Adam Pearson indicated the deal may yet be longer than the initial nine game period, with both hoping it becomes a long-term partnership.
"'It's a very permanent move and I feel he's the man that can keep us up and I hope to sort out a new deal on May 15," said Pearson
