Mark Calderwood
Date of Birth: 25th Oct 1981
Place of Birth: London
Position: Winger
PROFILE:
Signed for Hull FC at the end of the 2008 Super League season, Calderwood was brought in to the club to replace the retiring Matt Sing.
Born in London, Mark started his playing career at Stanningley ARLFC before signing for the Leeds Rhinos Academy in 2000.
He scored over 40 tries in his first season in the Leeds youth set-up, earning him a call up into the first team in 2001.
Following his debut against London from the bench in the first match of the season, he went on to score 12 tries and established himself as a first-choice winger for the Rhinos.
In 2002 and 2003 he finished as the leading British try scorer in Super League, and in 2005 he scored two tries against Hull in Leeds’ Challenge Cup final defeat.
A big-money move to Wigan followed, however he has been unable to maintain his impressive try scoring run at the Warriors with 20 tries in his 60 Super League appearances.
Despite being in and out of the Warriors team under Brian Noble, Calderwood made a blistering return toward the end of the 2008 season.
His man-of-the-match performance against Leeds in the Grand Final eliminator was enough to earn him a surprise call-up to Tony Smith’s England side for the World Cup.
Throughout his career his blistering pace has brought him countless tries, but he is not just a speed merchant. Difficult to tackle, Calderwood remains an elusive winger who can go on the outside of players.
STATS:
Hull career: Appearances 18, tries 6, goals 0, drop goals 0, points 24
