Richard Horne
Date of Birth: 16th Jul 1982
Place of Birth: Hull
Position: Stand-off
PROFILE:
One of the finest players to come out of Hull for many decades. Great versatility and, although regarded as an excellent attacking player he is also superb in defence. His ability to stand up opposing defenders is second to none and his pace often leads to an abundance of line breaks and try scoring opportunities. A terrific talent he scored 18 tries in all competitions in 2006 and equalled the club’s all-time try scoring record by touching down in 11 straight games, which is a Super League record. An established Great Britain international and made one appearance in the 2006 end of season Tri-Nations.
The 2007 season proved to be difficult for Horne after losing his long-standing half-back partner Paul Cooke. A succession of partners were then tried with Tommy Lee, Anthony Thackeray, Danny Washbrook and then Mathew Head brought in alongside Horne who was switched from scrum-half to stand-off.
After struggling with a re-occurring foot injury during the start of the 2008 season Horne was prevented from settling in and picking up form along with new scrum-half partner Adam Dykes.
Then, after finally regaining full fitness the Great Britain International was hit with a horrific neck injury which has seen him ruled out for the remainder of the season and put a stop on his aspirations of the World Cup in Autumn.
Horne would eventually miss the majority of the season, but did make an emotional comeback, coming off the bench at Wembley in the Challenge Cup final.
It was a typically gutsy performance by Horne, who defied all the odds to put in a brave and eye catching display.
After enjoying an injury free pre-season, Horne started the 2009 campaign in superb fashion by scoring a try in the opening match at home to Wigan.
Two weeks later at the KC Stadium the home-grown hero reached the milestone of 100 tries for the club as Hull recorded their third successive win and their best ever start to a Super League campaign.
