HULL KR: Role change for Cooke and Webster
It will see Cooke revert to loose forward for the season opener against Salford at Craven Park on Sunday.
And following a successful stint in the position in pre-season friendlies, New Zealander Jake Webster will start the new campaign at stand-off.
Morgan hopes the move will make his side more direct, with both men encouraged to run at defences.
And he says it is part of a drive to make his team more flexible this season, with players able to play varying roles and positions.
Cooke's move to loose-forward has been enforced because of an injury to Ben Galea.
But Morgan says he wants the 28-year-old to play a more direct role all season.
"Paul is likely to play that role with Ben out injured," Morgan told the Mail.
"We have changed the way our team is set up a little bit. I thought Paul played very well against Bradford, carrying the ball strongly."
Morgan said he wants Cooke to replicate that for 27 weeks.
He continued: "He needs to take the line on like that as I was very impressed with that role.
"Because he did that, I'm a lot more comfortable in putting him in the pack.
"It doesn't mean his role will change a great deal attack-wise and he will still link up with Michael Dobson.
"But it gives us another runner in Jake, who is named at six but will not be a traditional number six."
"Jake is a runner of the ball and we don't want to change that," said Morgan.
"He is a very devastating runner with the football.
"He was pigeon-holed a little bit last season out on the right hand side.
"By playing him more central he can get his hands on the ball.
"We don't want to turn him into a Paul Cooke type stand-off.
"We want him to be a Jake Webster type of stand-off and that is somebody who runs the ball.
"We won't expect any long cut-out passes from him or short kicks."
Teenage prop Liam Watts is also to be given the chance to win a regular place in his squad with his first run-out since the 36-8 Craven Park derby win to end the 2008 season.
"Liam Watts has impressed and will be on the bench for game one," said Morgan.
"He has done enough to force his way into the team."
